Team KFC – Kids Fighting Cancer – is one of a kind! Six of our 10-member team comprises young, female athletes with an average age of 14! They represent the sports of gymnastics, cross-country, swimming, track, and triathlon. In fact, our swimmers represent almost all of Lexington’s major swim teams! Our four, adult athletes are the mothers and extended family of some of the girls. However, most importantly, each person on our team has been directly affected by a cancer diagnosis. Our team captain, Erica, is a 2-time breast cancer patient of Dr. Feddock and a mother to three of the girls. Our other six teammates have had a parent, grandparent, cousin, or uncle diagnosed with some form of cancer. We understand, firsthand, the virulent nature of this disease and want to do something to put an end to it! It is our hope and dream that a cure will be found for all forms of cancer within our lifetime, but until that day comes, the availability of the most advanced, least caustic treatment is imperative for a patient’s health. We are honored to have the opportunity to swim, bike, and run an IRONMAN to help raise funds for a new brachytherapy suite for Dr. Feddock and the University of Kentucky’s Markey Cancer Center because we’re not too chicken TRI!!
